Covid-19 Vaccine Myths Debunked

A virus, not larger than a few microns, came into our lives at the end of the year 2019 and disrupted everything around us. Yes! I am referring to novel coronavirus, Covid-19, the only reason behind the ongoing pandemic. After a long wait for months and a roller coaster ride of emotions, the world finally came up with few effective vaccines. To protect ourselves from the attack by the virus, it is very essential to get vaccinated.

It is natural to have concerns regarding the effectiveness of the vaccine and its side effects. However, these doubts make us fall prey to rumours created by ignorant masses.

Here we have debunked few such ongoing rumours about the vaccine:

1.  As vaccines are developed quickly, they might not be safe enough
Quick development was possible only because of the advanced technologies and availability of previous research material related to MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV-1. Proper trials have also been conducted before rolling out the vaccines. Hence, the vaccines are safe.

2.  The vaccines might show up some side effects later in life
Vaccines show side effects in short duration only. According to researchers, there won't be any long-term effects.

3.  We may get virus attack from the vaccine
Weak viruses are injected into our bodies; hence there is no probability of getting attacked by the virus by taking the vaccine.

4.  We might be attacked by the virus even after being vaccinated
After getting vaccinated, there is a very narrow scope of getting affected by Covid-19. However, if one gets affected, he/she can be cured easily and the situation won't get worse.

5.
Covid recovered patients need not get vaccinated
People are advised to get vaccinated irrespective of past history of infection.

6.  People with weak immunity should avoid vaccine
Consult a doctor to get the right suggestion based on your medical condition.

7.  The vaccine makes people infertile
No such effect has been observed among those who have got vaccinated or those on whom testing was conducted.

8.  Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not get vaccinated
Although weak virus can’t be passed to the baby, women can consult it with the doctor handling their case.

9.  Once vaccinated, you need not follow social distancing
Getting vaccinated just reduces the chance of getting affected by the virus, it does not eliminate the risk. Hence, precautions should always be taken.

10.  Women on their periods should not get vaccinated
This rumour came into picture as during periods women experience low immunity. However, since a very weak virus is injected, it is safe to get vaccinated even during periods.

11.  The vaccines are made up of controversial substances
Information regarding the substances with which the vaccines are created is available to the public and there is no such controversial substance used.

Since the bubbles of myths have been busted, it is our responsibility to help people come out of the trap of rumours. In the current scenario, we must stay safe from both, the virus and false information!
